Tips for a Smooth Transition to CVMS

Attend Orientation in Early August

Students will see:

  • PAC (Performing Arts Center)
  • Front Office/Counseling Office/Health Office
  • Gymnasium & Locker Rooms
  • Lunch Area
  • Learning Commons (aka Library Media Center)
  • Classrooms
  • The Quad

Parents will have the opportunity to:

  • Purchase PE uniforms and spirit wear
  • Purchase a yearbook
  • Join the PTSA and enter some raffle drawings
  • Open a lunch account
  • Hear from the principal, assistant principal and guidance counselors
  • Learn how to set up an Aeries account for your child
  • Visit numerous informational booths for Math League, Music Boosters, Science Olympiad, Boys & Girls Club After-School Sports, Travel Club, School Nurse and more

Attend “Mosey Monday” in Mid August

Students may mosey around campus on Monday, August 14, 2023.  Campus will be open from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, although classrooms will be closed.

Students may:

  • Check out their Chromebooks (in the Learning Commons)
  • Map out their class schedule (know how to go from the Drop Off Line to the Quad to Each Class and Lunch)
  • Set a meeting spot for lunch in the Quad with their friends (even if your friends have a phone, it is hard to find them at lunch)

Families are strongly urged to:

  • Explore the walking routes surrounding CVMS to find creative spots for drop off and pick up that avoid Mykonos Ln.
  • Sign up for the Carpool Connections to help eliminate traffic congestion

Be Prepared on the First Day

Students should NOT shop for school supplies until after the first day of school is over!

So what should they bring on the first day?

  • Class schedule
  • Campus map marked with your classrooms
  • A 1” 3-ring binder with pockets, unlabeled!
  • 2 pens or pencils
  • Charged Chromebook
  • Lunch code (you must access your Aeries account to find this)

What will happen on the first day of school?

  • Students will follow a “Monday – Single Period Day” schedule.
  • “Advisory teachers” will be assigned.
  • Agendas will be handed out.  (These include a front section full of school information.)
  • Teachers will hand out a class syllabus that includes grading and homework policies, needed supplies, etc.
  • Students will NOT need their PE uniforms for the first week of school.

Your student will not be able to label or organize their supplies until after the first day!

Many students buy separate binders for each day of school, ie, one for Tuesday/Thursday (periods 1, 3, and 5) and one for Wednesday/Friday (periods 2, 4, and 6), and bring both binders to school on Mondays.
